From the Stone Age to the ghosts of the manorial period
Timrå’s history began long before the timber industry was established. All periods are represented and archaeological finds show that the region was already inhabited in the Stone Age. In historical times we hear of a district vibrant with trade and industry. For example there was a flourishing glassworks here before the famous glass epoch arrived in Småland.
Of course there are also the works with which Timrå is so strongly associated. In the summer Merlo Slott is open to visitors and Lögdö Bruk has activities and events for the whole family. Also, if you visit Wifsta Varfs Herrgård watch out for the ghosts of the manor!
